— our mini fleet —

Our mini fleet consists of two classic, old-school camper trucks, each equipped with the legendary Ford 7.3L diesel engine—renowned for being among the most reliable engines ever built. These trucks are impressively fuel-efficient by North American standards and are ready to take you wherever your adventure leads, even as far as Banff.

Here’s what you can expect from each truck :

  • Seating for 5
  • AC and heating for all climates
  • Electric windows
  • Radio/CD with Aux mini-jack input
  • 4×4 or 2×4 drive (dirt-road access only upon prior approval)
  • Automatic transmission
  • USB charger
  • Winter tires
  • Rear trail hitch
  • Backup camera

As for the campers, both trucks feature 1998 Canadian-made Kodiak fiberglass campers, some of the best built for durability. These are ideal for BC’s wet coastal weather and snowy conditions, ensuring comfort no matter where you’re headed.

Each camper is thoughtfully equipped for your comfort, with amenities designed to make your journey as convenient and enjoyable as possible:

  • Propane heater with thermostat control
  • Air conditioning (110V power only) – GREY CAMPER ONLY
  • 3-way fridge (runs on propane, 12V, or 110V)
  • 3-burner stove and oven for easy meal prep
  • Inside and outside showers
  • Toilet with hot water access
  • 200W solar panel and a 300W inverter for off-grid power
  • Queen-sized bed (sleeps 2 comfortably)
  • Convertible bottom seating area, transforming into a second bed for guests or children (sleeps 2 additional people if needed)
  • CO detector for safety
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Fully stocked kitchen with all utensils, pots, pans, and cutlery included
  • Linens, duvet, and covers available as an add-on for extra convenience

These features make our campers a great choice for cozy, independent travel across BC !

A Note on Vintage Character

Our camper trucks are nearly 30 years old, adding to their rugged charm and adventurous spirit. With many rentals under their belt, they may show some small signs of past journeys, such as minor stains or wear. While we do our best to ensure they’re clean and ready for each new trip, there may occasionally be items like dishes or glasses that haven’t been meticulously inspected after every use.

If a spotless setup is a priority for you, we offer an add-on service for a thorough inspection. With this option, we’ll dedicate extra time to ensure everything is pristine and in place when you arrive, allowing you to start your adventure with complete peace of mind.

— calendar —

Here you can have a look at the calendar to see what dates are available. If nothing shows up, then both campers are available, as easy as that !

— rates —

Both of our campers are also listed on Outdoorsy. However, our goal is to help you avoid the platform’s high fees (which can add up to 30%) while providing a better insurance option. If you find a lower price on Outdoorsy, let us know, and we’ll match it. By booking directly through our website, you’ll receive at least a 15% discount compared to the total cost on Outdoorsy after all fees.

— insurance —

The following insurance is included during the rental period:

  • $5,000,000 CAD in extended third-party liability coverage
  • $500 CAD deductible for collision
  • $500 CAD deductible for comprehensive coverage

Please note that the Renter is responsible for covering any applicable deductible.

For additional details on ICBC (government-provided insurance), please visit ICBC’s website.

Our Commitment to Transparent and Reliable Insurance Coverage

Unlike many rental companies that may downplay potential risks, Retro Rides Canada is dedicated to full transparency and prioritizing your protection. Vehicle rentals inherently come with risks, and we aim to ensure you’re aware and well-covered. For example, while many peer-to-peer rental services like Outdoorsy only offer $200,000 CAD in liability coverage, we believe this falls far short of adequate protection. At Retro Rides Canada, we provide extended coverage by listing you as a driver on a commercial insurance policy, offering you the highest standard of liability coverage available in Canada.

Camper Shell Coverage

Currently, BC’s government insurance provider, ICBC, treats the camper shell as separate from the truck itself, which means damage to the camper shell isn’t covered under the same policy. This is an area we’re actively working to address, but for now, the Renter will be responsible for any damage to the camper shell. The full value of the camper shell is approximately $12,000 CAD, so in the rare case of a total loss, this is the maximum amount for which you would be liable.

We invite you to check in with your travel insurance (VISA, private insurances …) since a lot of them will cover damage done to a rented vehicle or RV.

While we are working towards a solution for this, we believe providing solid liability coverage is far more essential than partial camper shell coverage.

— rental terms —

  • Minimum 2 nights of rental for pickup/drop-off in Squamish, BC (Downtown)
  • Minimum 7 nights of rental for pickup/drop-off in Vancouver, BC (Park Royal)

Each rental includes 100 km per day. Any distance driven beyond this limit will incur an additional mileage fee of $0.50 CAD per kilometre.

The vehicle is intended for personal use only and should be driven exclusively on paved roads because of its weight. Use on Forest Service Roads (or any dirt roads) requires prior approval from the Owner.

Had a great experience in one of Alex's RVs over the course of 7 nights. He made great accommodations for my particular needs, was very communicative, and delivered everything as promised. Thank you for helping me to have such a memorable trip 🙌 wouldn't hesitate to book again.

We rented a camper for a week to take a road trip on Vancouver Island. The camper was clean and in great condition. Alex was very responsive and replied quickly whenever we had a question. It was wonderful to have a place to relax and cook when it rained. I highly recommend renting from Retro Rides Canada!

Had a great trip to the Okanagan area in the “Retromobile”. Lovely spacious accommodation, kitchen equipped with everything you need, and very glad of the efficient heater in the chilly mornings. The truck is of it’s era, easily coped on the high passes, surprisingly good fuel economy, and nice for an unrushed holiday jaunt. Alex was informative and very helpful before we set off and made clear he was on call should there be a problem. Many thanks to him for a memorable trip.

I booked with Alex during a climbing trip to Squamish. I caught a ride from a friend from the airport, but then it was easy to coordinate the handover right in town. The campers are surely retro, but they feel so much roomier than modern camper vans I've rented on other trips. It was great to have a rental car and accommodations in one, sure beats the AirBnB rates around!

We rented a Retro Rides camper for a weekend trip to Golden Ears Provincial Park. The camper was easy to drive and we felt very safe and comfortable the whole time. The camper was indeed retro and looked stunning! Alex was very thorough in his guide on how to use everything inside the camper and with the truck itself. Five star customer service, we felt cared for and he answered all the questions we had with patience. We had an amazing time and I would recommend this local rental company to all my friends and anyone reading this! Renting a camper truck is the best way to experience the area and camp in incredible places, while being cozy and dry in a camper : the best of both worlds!

We took a ride from Squamish to Mt Baker and spent a few nights exploring the area. Alex is a great guy, handover was straightforward and he’s even written a comprehensive how to if you weren’t paying attention like us. Very comfortable, everything you need is provided (minus beer & food). Will book again for sure
